Tyrone-Snyder Public Library
Check for updated information
about the library, its books, programs, and special events in this column
appearing bi-weekly on Thursdays in The Daily Herald.
Chuck Banas and the Friends of the Tyrone-Snyder Public
Library recently went public with the stars of their 2012 benefit concert for
the library. Save the date: on May 5, 2012 the Friends of the Library will be
presenting Magical Musical Moments featuring Jay and the Americans, the Edsels,
and the Tyrone Area High School Jazz Band. Just in time for Christmas, tickets
are available at the library, Kopp Drugs of Tyrone, and Bressler’s Food Mart.
For more information on the 2012 Concert call 682-1017 or stay tuned to the
Daily Herald for updates from Mr. Banas.
We will be celebrating Tyrone’s Yuletyme Christmas with a holiday boutique to
be held in the library on December 3, 2011 (the first Saturday in December) from
10 AM-2 PM. The boutique will feature booths with representatives from Discovery
Toys, Eclipse Candle Company, Pampered Chef, Paula Ford Custom Jewelry, and
Usborne Books. Why fight the crowds in State College or Altoona when you can do
your Christmas shopping from your hometown? During the boutique the library will
also be holding its annual Christmas cookie sale. Come stock up on homemade
cookies for the holidays.
On Tuesday, December 6th the Blair County Conservation District will
be holding a organic wreath making workshop in the library’s community room
from 5:30-7 PM. Make and take a holiday wreath made from fresh local pine and
decorate with beautiful, all-natural materials. Everything can be composted
after the holiday, except the frame, which can be used for many years to come--a
truly “green” craft! Space in the workshop is limited to 15, so register as
soon as possible. There is a $5.00 fee for the workshop that includes all
materials. Call 684-1133 to register, or sign up in person at the checkout desk.
Join us on December 8th from 6-7 PM for Cool Yule, our next monthly
kids’ fun night at the library. We’ll be offering free stories & crafts
for kids of all ages. Our fun nights are free and open to the public. No
pre-registration is required, but we ask that an adult stay with very young
children during the program. For more information on our programs for children
and grown-ups alike, add us on Facebook.
Due to low attendance GED classes in the library have been cancelled, but we
hope to offer GED classes again in 2012. Keep an eye on the community calendar
in the Daily Herald for updates on times and dates.
That’s the news from the library—we hope to see you soon!
